A movie based on the book by the same title. It is an autobiography about a man and his brother and the role fly fishing plays in each of their lives. I, personally, was bored with the book, though it had its moments.

Not exactly the image of a fly-fisherman that I wanted, but you take what you can get sometimes. I would love to reshoot this on a clear sunny day with the sun shining through the leaves and the fisherman backlit so as to be a silhouette. Also, I would like to be down lower, more on the level of the fisherman.

For this shot, I was on the observation deck of the river, and this guy was just learning to fish. Up and to the left, just out of the frame, was a very bored, almost annoyed, looking guide/instructor.

Yea, yea, yea. I was so bored by the book, figured I'd avoid the movie. The river was a brownish color, mainly because of the unbelievable amount of rain we've had this summer, particularly this day. I have no idea who this guy is -- just some poor guy who was the only fly fisherman I could find on the river.

I would have had the whole rod showing, but then you would have seen what a mess his line was in (I think he was just learning or something). Also, I am on a quest to find out what the heck that pixelation stuff is -- it's not from compression, as you can see it in the original, but not at full size.

Thanks for the comments.

He's no Brad Pitt, but at least you have a fly fisherman!!!

Brad Pitt EXACTLY...how'd you get 'im for yer shot? Ahh but seriously...not sure the toning here is exactly cinematic. It look muddy, like he's fishing in the sewer. Maybe a blue duotone? Basic black and white? Almost all flyfishing shots have the whole rod showing at least. I'd really like to see a wider angle with the rod tip included to the left, and the loop of line included as well. It seems heavily cropped and missing a whole lot.

I can see the flow of the water, like your colors, good focus and composition. I wonder if seeing some shorline might add to the composition?

You have 'jaggies' on the pole and around the guys clothing in places. I think I was told that compression causes these jaggie things, but I'm not really sure how accurate that info was. Definately something to check into though. you can see them on the pole part, and also on the string that goes along side the pole part mostly. Otherwise, I think it's a great shot. Focus and clarity are really good, and the angle and framing/cropping are good as well. The lighting is very nice, but I wouldn't want to see it any brighter on his hand. Nice shot. ~Heather~

Good tones and exposure. I think the composition would have been stronger with more of the rod and line showing and more of the river.

I don't know this movie so I'll have to take your word for it that this is a scene in it. Love the sepia toning and composition in the image. This will do well.

Focus seems a little soft to me. Great idea though :)
