Greetings from the Critique Club!

An excellent image that fits the challenge well. Exposure is good, with the rich shadows created by the cabbage leaves adding to the sense of texture. Sharpness, probably an important requirement for the challenge, is outstanding. The water drops are a good touch, offering a softer counter-balance to the rest. The natural colours are beautiful.

In my opinion, the negative space around the cabbage detracts slightly. I would have preferred a crop that isolated just the centre of the cabbage, also omitting the carrot, which in my opinion is more of an eyetrap, drawing our eye away from the central theme, which I believe to be the richly textured leaves. As well, the carrot has the unfortunate effect of "cutting off" the lower right corner of the image, which, I feel, is never a good element. This effect is enhanced by a small portion of black background at the extreme corner. It could be argued, however, that the vertically-running texture in the carrot's skin is a nice complement to the deeper textures above, but the composition in this regard does not work well for me.

You seem to have carefully controlled the lighting in this scene to enhance the wonderfully ridged leaves. You may have been able to get an even more dramatic effect by playing with lighting yet further.

Although the colours are rich and beautiful, perhaps duotone would have had a very strong impact.

Overall, a beautiful image regardless, very rewarding to study. Thanks!

Hope this helps,
Louis

This shot is good enough without the carrot. Well done!

I like the cabbage, but why the carrot? I'd prefer this cropped just above the carrot - the water droplets and the makeup of the cabbage leaves are the real focal points here.

6 - Good potential. More carrots (and variation in lighting on them &/or wetting them too), for added color and balance (else no carrot), a tighter crop, variation in composition (again for balance) and the 'something' dark on the left removed/cropped out, make this even better in my opinion.

Cropped above the carrot, this is by far my favorite photo of cabbage. The crinkles and the many shades of green are quite marvelous. Black background is goo. As for the carrot, IMO that would be a 2 pt deduction if it could not so easily be chopped off the photo, Even if it might have added color or some other quality to the composition, the blown highlignts ( or just about ) is the last thing to include in a photo about texture... Sorry about the rant, I like the cabbage.

Wow! The cabbage is so "textury". My first instinct was to reach out and touch it. Great tonality, nice detail and colors. Personally the carrot doesn't do much for me, except pull my eye out of the shot. My inclination would be to do more carrot or none. Really nice, regardless.

The carrot doesn't add a thing but I love the richness of the greens and all the undulations of the cabbage leaves. Nice lighting - but I'd crop out the carrot.

I think you have done a great job showing the texture of the cabbage. However, I find the carrot distracting. I would have removed it all together or included more of it in the shot. 7
