Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Refraction of Light (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-1D
Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM
Location: Home: Carlsbad, CA
Date: Mar 29, 2006
Aperture: f/16
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/5
Galleries: Abstract, Portraiture
Date Uploaded: Mar 29, 2006

I captured this self-portrait using my EOS 1D and a 200mm lens—to exagerate the difference between foreground and background—focused on an open 50mm lens, which was focused to infinity. I used the camera's 10 second timer so I could get to the other side of the lens for the capture. The image was taken at f/16 to get a decent depth of field and I held still for a 1/5 second exposure while bouncing a flash from the ceiling to get enough light. Quite fun!

This is a fantastic image. Wasn't at DPC yet, but I would've voted this a 9 or 10. Well done!

A very compelling photograph. The crop is great. The DOF blur is awesome. I feel like there's just so much perfection in this photograph. Congratulations.

Somebody remarked recently - in any challenge there is at least one entry with the picture of a lens. Well, here it is and not bad!
