Accepting Kiwiness' challenge? What was I thinking? Here's hoping I could just be a few places below you Gary ;)

Cheers,

Rikki

8:26PM PST 03/26/06 update:

Last minute change of heart. I entered a landscape shot but....I just hope this is good enough for the voters.

The pressure to bring my game amidst the challenge with Gary is a bit nerve wracking. I am completely undecided with a lot of my shots. I wasn't able to shoot until yesterday and I am in a bit of a dilemna. For this challenge, I shot almost 500 images trying out a wide variety of images from studio shots to landscape shots.

Post Challenge:
Unbelievable! Tied in a dead lock with Kiwiness! I am surprised and thrilled.

The setup:
An ordinary paperclip straightened and wrapped around a pen to create the coil effect. Uncoiled and added a drop of water. The tip is tight so as to provide a place where the water can adhere to via surface friction. The background is a piece of construction paper and lit with clamp lights. The "halo" as people commented is there so that the "catchlights" are created. Without it, it would be flat and unassuming ;)

Here were some outtakes from the challenge.

Some extremely memorable quotes from this thread:

This hotly contested battle is being watch closely by news services.

In an astonishing development, early exit poll interviews of voters prompted some news organizations to project a winner!

NBC News now projects that Rikki will win by a landslide.

CBS News projects Kiwiness will win.

The Fox News Network, after careful analysis of their exit poll results, now claim they will have exactly the same score.

CNN reports they will not project a winner before the polls close, but they have a catchy new theme song they play every 5 minutes to report they are not projecting a winner yet!

Hey, I was actually going to comment (for real) that this was yours, Rikki. But I didn't get around to commenting much. Nice job.

Beautiful in its simplicity. Bumping up.

Very bright and colorful, although could have done with being a little more sharper. Not so sure about the thick white line around the bigger droplet either.

I don't understand the halo around the largest drop. It's a major negative in an otherwise outstanding image.

The intense vivid color and simple form, great combination for a great photo!

Great idea. I think you almost got it. The color seems a little overworked to me. The hot spots in the drops themselves are distracting. Great effort.

Abstract like, very nice! Do find the halo around the first drop from the right a bit odd though.
