POST PROCESSING: First time on post processing an image. Before now I always thought "This is the photo I took so here it is" but when in rome....
-Saturated blue & reds a little, left the blues well alone coz it looked grainy or something.
-Unsharp mask. (Probably not needed really).
-Thats it really, I think.
Tried muckin about with contrast to get rid of that shadow but if affects the whole image too much. If anyone knows more about how to do it I would appreciate the knowledge. Im guessing curves or histograms.
All done is PSP7 at work. Great program. I hear photoshop is better though.

Basically a caterpillar on an old, dry fence post in our back garden. Taken with the flash on coz it really bought out the colours of this little guy. It was late in the arvo when I found it and light was dull. I still cant believe the sky came out that blue. Nightmare trying not to get bright reflections in its black head/body from flash.

Quite happy with this shot for my first attempt at insect macros/photography.

BTW this critter seems to come in 2 flavours:
1) Very fury black thing.
2) Traded fur for colour and spikes/hair.
If anyone knows what the hell it is I'd sure like to know.

Wow! Fantastic macro shot... I like the composition, as well. The focus seems a bit soft where I would expect it to be a bit sharper if the DOF were centered on the caterpillar. --8

with such a good "model" you should have catched the skin details in a better way.

To me, the cropping is to close. I'd like a little habitat with the catepillar.

I think that this shot would have been more effective with a shallower dof and a sharper camera angle. As it is, I don't know if it's coming or going.

Cool Pic. The plain gray log and still blue sky really brings out the colours in that thing. Awesome. 10
