What a cool eye to picture this. Great use of space and dimension. I like that you used a wide aperture and it is all in focus!

I borrowed the word from Russian, which, undoubtedly, borrowed if from French. The way I understood it, in French "genre" means everyday, mundane. In Russian, "genre photography" means photography (usually of everyday scenes, predominantly, but not necessarilly, not set up) of something with a story. Basically, the photographer's take on everyday situations. There is often a feeling of a culmination when you look at a genre picture. However, defining it is very hard, and in the Russian photography boards there are never-ending arguments about what is genre photography. Some think that genre cannot be set up, for example, but I disagree.

Here are a few quick examples, from what I've viewed recently, of what genre photography is, in my understanding:
, also this, and this.

However, it very well may be that in English this word is not used for the same purpose. I need to ask around.

wunderbar! they look like two animals in a cage! I'm curious to know what you mean by a "genre" collection. I recently heard Buffy the Vampire Slayer referred to as "genre television," and I'm not sure what they meant, either. I do know that what made Buffy unique was that it changed genre from episode to episode, and also within episodes: drama, comedy, horror, musical. So, are you participating in a genre or playing with genre?

Something "out of the box" -- the title makes us stop and think. Very apt.
