This is a buddy of mine who works with me at the asylum. He just gratuated as a historian recently, he was about to begin his night shift when I too this picture.

I used channel mixer to convert this one into B&W, and a lot of curves layers to get theyse tones. This picture was lit by a bounched flas from a canon 580ex.

"Historian" is an excellent addition into the Square Crop challenge. Excellent 19th placement in such an huge challenge with 364 entries.

This image is prefect example of a black and white portrait. Something about the eyes just grabs you and pulls you into the image. I really don't see anything I would change, this is a great piece. After reading your comments I am sure it was hard to get him not to smile after graduating. But he does have that glazed over look I have because I work nights. I had to peek at your profile and you do amazing work with black and white portraits. I can say there is anything I would recommend this is just an excellent piece.

Wonderful portrait and great tonalities. The eyes seem a bit over-dodged to me, but beyond that this is absolutely beautful. 9.

I am not sure what to think about your photo. I did look at it much longer than I looked at most of the others. I guess that means something. It is captivating that is for sure. 8

Rough B&W suits the rough face well. Cutting of a part of the head makes the viewer focus on the expressive features of the face (eyes, cheeks, mouth). The look on his face is hard to place, perhaps indifferent. It doesn't give anything away.

I really like the detail in this shot. His eyes are piercing. I also think that the b/w tones are an added bonus to this great portrait. Well done.

This is GREAT! Sharp and well toned. The BG is a bit distracting, but not enough to lower the score!
