Square crop definately suits the crop of this image.....

I gave this a 9. Excellent opportunity capture. Conjures a variety of mixed 'thoughts' but the bottom line is: it's genuine and captures reality. The pipe? - didn't bother me too much, in fact added a 'back alley' type feel to the shot in my opinion. Without it, still good, but not the same feel. The square framing was excellent and composition near perfect. A 'once off' shot. Taking the liberty of adding to my Favorites. Colors are also complementary and even more ironic, is where this was taken.

What a interesting mix of beauty and subject matter that can be hard to stomach. I'm betting a lot of voters had trouble getting past that. A photo as technically well done as this should of scored much higher.

Way under-rated in the final voting. It's a brilliant photo.

I have to agree with the other post voting commentors. This shot should have scored much higher. Great color, composition and tells a story. Very well done regardless of what the voters thought.

Interesting scoring on this one, I think a lot of people underestimate the difficulty of this capture, especially from the DOF standpoint! Love the rich tones, works well as a square.

How this image gets this many votes below a five is beyond me. Keep up the quality of these shots, the scores will come. I was sure this would top twenty at least.

good capture, very well processed, At first I didn't like the pipe line on the right edge, but it does give some balance and greater sense of place. The expression in the cat's eyes and the perfect framing of the bird's wings and feet pointing to the corners of the frame make this a top ribbon contender.

I would imagine a few peeps won't like this shot? Certainly not something you'll witness often (especially with your cam in tow). Well done and good luck.

Unique capture; A cats got to eat! But heck, the pipe is distracting; I'd like to see more of that great peach stucco background. But I know, you can't go back in time; and neither can mr. pidgeon. good luck!

Hope the bird is ok .. what a snot of a cat .. but praise her anyway ... lucky you were there to catch the shot. I think a little more play around contrast and brights would have done a bit more for the shot itself.

Fantastic picture, Rikki. ;-) I like how the cat is in mid-stride. The pigeon seems still alive (was it?). Come to think of it, I never realised cats went for pigeons.

I would have given you a 10 had the saturation been a little stronger.

That's bound to get some reaction. It definitely stirs some emotion in me. Compositionally: Lots of nice diagonals serve to emphasize the movement and unease created by the subjects. The pipe is a bit distracting and the rear foot of cat looks a little "chopped". However, it's hard to criticise considering how difficult it must have been to get a cat and bird to pose. Color, exposure and focus are great.
