Challenge: Square Crop (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Location: My Basement
Date: Mar 3, 2006
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/3.3
Galleries: Still Life
Date Uploaded: Mar 2, 2006

The camera is my dad's old Agfa. He bought it at a flea market when I was a kid, and fixed it up. He used it for years. When he died 27 years ago, I inherited it. I haven't used it for probably the last 25 years.

Shot in my basement with two worklights at 1000w each through umbrellas, and -0.7EV on the camera. Cut circle out of black matboard to get black around the lens.

In Photoshop:

-cropped to square
-selected the rings around the lens and inversed the selection
-used levels adjustment to change the black point
-cloned and burned to clean up still light areas of the black background
-inversed selection again
-dodged & burned around the rings
-resized to 640x640
-USM 85/1/4
-healing tool to clean up some dust spots on lens

I like how beat up the lens is- good character. Like the lighting as well.

I like the circle-in-a-square idea, and here it works perfectly. I love the aged metal. Hope this does well.

That's quite an old lens, Rikki. ;-) Is it in working condition or just a museum piece.
