The flash really spoils the mood of this shot. Maybe try putting something in front of your flash to soften it.

The harsh lighting takes my eye everywhere else first rather than the flames. The fire itself looks great, though... nice and sharp.

Beautiful fire, especially the colour and the texture of the flame. Your modle is overlit by the flash and it seems to have spoiled that soft glow that a fire gemerates. That light makes us feel warm and really relate to the pic.

A way around this is to bounce your flash off the ceiling or if you can set it manually, just let it use a weak 'fill'. I'm guessing that just the fire by itself ddin't throw enough
