Chris is a tradesman so I thought we'd combine both our interests and try to paint with fire...Used a long exposure and a low ISO.

Greetings from the Critique Club

Welcome to DPC! It's always a challenge to get that first entry in and you did it.

You had a good idea here and of course it meets the Challenge. But I'm afraid those technical values were against you in this one. Maybe a lot less fire and more painting would have helped this image. As it is, the image is very over-exposed, and has lost detail in the painted area. Then, and at 15 seconds, Chris couldn't help but move, so he is in very soft focus.

Finally, in composition, your image is divided almost exactly in half. I'd suggest that you try to make one side or the other more important by giving it more space, because when the sides are equal, sometimes the viewer will just bounce back and forth trying to figure out what is and is not important.

Well, I think I've given you enough to think about.
:)
Keep those Challenge entries coming, you'll be moving up in score in no time and having fun in the trying.

I think a faster shutter speed might work better.

I like your concept, but I feel as though the brightness distracts me from the rest of what is going on this in this photo. Also, it's not immediately clear that the sparks are eminating from his hand, perhas they should be closer? 6

next time leave the guy out and change the background so the fire or whatever it is doesnt look blended in.
