Set up -- Trumpet sitting on a piece of black felt.
The shot -- I used a 30 second exposure and lit the trumpet with a standard flashlight (which is why my silver trumpet looks brass -- bit of a white balance issue, but it looked better, I think, than silver) and the blue was made by two different flashlights.
Post processing -- cropped, saturated blues, desaturated yellows (a touch on both). Would have LOVED to clone out that one stray blue line and that hot pixel. :)
I have reshot this picture over the course of three nights. It is one of those that I felt like was a really good idea, and I really wanted to try to execute it well. I think it is good. BUT, when I feel that way about a shot, the voters don't. :?
So. I figure it will be yet another 4.3ish shot for me, but I will have it printed and hang it on my wall with pride, cuz I think it is kewl. :) |

| Hmm, reminds me of my "Live Music" entry. I hope that means great minds think alike! My light trails were red instead, because that's what I had, and I think they work. |

| Wow, this is amazing. The lighting on the trumpet is mostly even, and the blue wisps of smoke totally scream the blues. Honestly, I didn't read the title, and totally got the idea that it was playing the blues which is what a photograph is suppose to be able to do--get the message across without needing a title. 10 |

| i really like the blue but the trumpet is to dark IMO and i think it would look better going to the left corner. |
