My typical setup. I used my AlienBee 400 strobe with double diffused soft box to give off a sort of rim light. I am really liking that type of lighting. Used a Dark Blue fabric as background. I achieved the look I wanted. Gives this a sort of Lite by Candle look. The softbox was actually pointed at the cam. I left the lighting up to the skew rays. The light was set up at 1/32 of full power which I find in the digital world ample for what I am shooting.

This shot just holds a certain appeal for me. Rich color, the subject bleeding off into the negative space, the simple border, and your composition give it a kind of romantic, old-world feel. Really a lovely shot.

I want to take an image just like this! The tones and warmth of the light with the placement and shadow of the violin make this an excellent image. Great job! 9 -danny

I love the rich, warm, tones of the wood. It is beautifully captured in this image. There is a bit of contrast I suppose, in a broad sense of the word, but honestly the contrast isn't the striking part of this. The color and curves are though. Beautiful, beautiful picture.

Very good display of contrast on many levels. Probably slightly darker than most people will like but the position of the lighting is ideal for the structure.

Perfection! When I try something like this it never works out. Can I come play at your house for awhile? 10

Beautiful, warm tones. I wish I could see just a bit more of the cello in this.

Seems over-sharpened - the lines of the strings have become jagged. Liek the idea of contrasting the two textures, but a lot of this image really is so dark I find myself struggling to see the rest of the instrument rather than concentrating on the subject.

Sensitive and studied lighting....... like candle light, is soft and warm on the wood of the instrument. Precision focus is beautiful. Colour is perfect.
