One of the more original entries. I quite like it at the conceptuallevel, and you seem aware of the rechnical "flaws", such as they are...

I guess I took your interpretation differently, reminded of "when the cock crows" from Biblical text. I think the grain is part of what makes this so wonderful. Spoon crop and shadow don't bother me either...I love it!

Thanks to all who took the time to vote and especially those who provided feedback. The idea was to represent how our dreams and hopes for ourselves or for the next generation can be undone by external forces or people (how many wanted to drive a fire engine for example?).

My own criticisms of the image include:

1. Horizon is not level - tried this several times in photoshop but never quite got it

2. Too much grain - taken at ISO 400 in a fairly dark room (I am sadly lacking even desk lamps!). Might have been clearer at 200 with a longer exposure.

3. Crop on spoon too tight - needed to remove my own shadow from the frame where I am holding the picture frame (window) via a piece of sewing thread.

Composition: 5 - Slightly tilted horizon. You can use guides in Photoshop to line up the horizon
Technical: 6 - I think the grain works well in this image
Creativity: 5 - Imaginative - maybe too abstract for the challenge though
Appeal: 5
Challenge: 4
Overall Score: 5 - (weighted - NOT a calculated average)

A stretch for this challenge, IMO - I suppose I can make the connection that the egg "hopes" to become a rooster - although since I assume it is already hard boiled, the chances are pretty slim. ;-)

lovely image, the grain effect works welll. The crop seems a little tight on the spoon, but a great idea and photo all the same.

There's something about the overall simplicity and color tones you've created that I really like. Terrific use of the shadow as well. Added to my favorites. Good luck in the challenge.

I herad most DPCers don't like grain, but here it has a very special mood that I love a much. Simple, beautiful tones of browns, well done.
