 I discovered this idea while experimenting with breaking eggs. You would probably laugh at my humble 'studio'. I set this up on my toilet seat using a 40w bulb and 8x10 sheets of paper for diffusing the light. I made the brown egg shell appear even darker by converting to B&W using 80% blue channel and 20% green. This process also brought out the beautiful detail on the shell. I cropped the original and tweaked the levels a bit in PS.

Very cool. A black egg is strange but cool. The lighting is a bit harsh on the right side.

Hi. After voting on 50% of the images, this is my favorite egg pic. Like the backlighting and composition.

Good idea and excellently presented - but I think photographing it from a different angle would have given it even more impact.
