Not much to say about this one, the result is actually pretty close to the vision. Another one of my hobbies (that I have far too little time to practice) is DJing Euro-Dance music. I've cursed this song's head-sticking chorus so many times... I thought of the song almost right away when I saw the challenge title.

A DJ's booth is a shadowy, moody place. I had fun with the lighting on this one. I really wanted to use the small gooseneck lamps that DJs use to illuminate their workspace as the main light for this shot, but I couldn't buy any locally, and didn't have time to mail order any. So I used one of my strobes high above, diffused the crap out of it, and turned it down all the way. That, along with a small aperature and a long shutter to 'burn' in the LEDs on the phono and the 'LOUNGE' sign are the result you see here.

An overall blue cast was added by PP the RAW file and changing the white balance sample to one of the RED LEDs. I futzed around with most of the standard RAW settings: exposure, contrast, slight saturation bump, the stuff I usually can't get perfect in camera. In photoshop I only had to size for web, smart sharpen, and save for web.

What would have made this perfect? A black background and a crowd of people or a laser light show. Oh well, you can't have it all. :)

Hope that you enjoyed the peek into the DJ booth.

Man, nobody gave you extra points for that song? I liked it at one point of my life. Personally I didn't like the blue cast shots as much as shots with natural light but blue subjects. Ask yourself this, if you take away the blue, are you left with a shot that says anything? Not spectacular. It's technically well done, but it lacks something for us to really turn over in our minds.

OK, I think I know one problem off the bat... After the resize the title of the song on the turntable (BLUE, buy Eiffel 65), which was a major element of the photo, wasn't that prominent.

But I couldn't find a composition that included all the elements of the scene, but highlighted the album title. I didn't want to take a picture of a record, but a picture of the whole setting...

*sigh*

Nice composition. Brighter levels would be better, manual rather than auto and just the white spot on the back of the tone arm.
