Greetings from the Critique Club!
First impression: This is one stunning photo. Meets the challenge perfectly - whether you look at the boats or if the sun gets your attention, nothing is in the center of the photo.
Composition:Unlike many other photos in the challenge, where the photographers recomposed images to move their main object off-center, yours is naturally off-center without negative space filling up the void.
Technicals:An image this great is both lovely to look at and hard to critique. One thing that I notice is the artefacts of jpg compression that are probably not visible in the original size.
To score higher than it did:Well, this one scored pretty high. What probably kept it from reaching the home page is slightly dull color in the bottom half. Perhaps shifting it a bit towards warmer tones could have helped get these voters that did not find the dullness appealing. Also, your horizon wasn't perfectly level. While noone mentioned this in their comments, it could have been a reason for a point deduction here and there.
Summary:Great photo, deserving of its top 10% finish. Good luck in your future challenges, looking forward to seeing more of your excellent work.
if you have any questions on the critique feel free to PM me.
Best regards,
-Serge
