Used a 2 step neutral density filter. After taking the picture, I converted it to black and white duotone, enabled sepia toning, and adjusted color to a warm saffron and yellow combination. Toned down the sun and brightness around the tree by using paintbrush and colorizing the areas. Dodged the background snow to brighten and tried to blur the ice on the grass a little so it wouldn't look like pixelization, though I don't think it made much difference. Dodged and burned the foreground to make the leading lines to the tree more pronounced.

June... This shot is fabulous. I can't believe the score you recived for this. What's even more amazing is that two people gave you a 1. Trolls Suck! I just added this to my favorites. I love the almost monotone color which kind of gives it a barren desert look. I had to check this out after you mentioned this is the same line of trees as horsebarn hill.

This shot leaped straight out of your lineup and into my heart!! What an amazing capture! The play of light is captivating and I love the sepia tones that you chose to work with. If you haven't considered making a print of this, you SHOULD!

This is seriously good - I suspect this entrant could make it in advertising photography. She has done two other shots which look to me like advertisements - the meal and the hiking boots, though I like the meal the best.

The best of luck in your photography. And don't worry about the going blind, unless your doctor knows something we dont - even if you sight is poor, as long as you can see to frame, the autofocus will usually take care of things.

I have cataracts in both eyes, and thought my photographic days were over, but have had the left lens replaced, and now my sight in that eye, instead of being soft filter, is now better than 20/20 vision - as good as it ever was, even in childhood, and I am 58 now, but just getting into second stride with the digital camera. How marvellous it is to take a shot, and then not have to pay for film or printing, and to perfect it too!

No other generation has ever had what we have now - and what a joy to be able to share it!

Best of luck in your goals - I am sure you will make it!

I normally don't score pictures with sepia toning very well, because often it doesn't add anything to the picture for me. However, I really liked yours and the mood it created. Well done.

colors and contrast are killer in this - and the control in the sky are there too.

This is beautiful!!! Typically I find sun in a shot, (particulary when back-lighting a subject) just ends up making for a bad photo. Not in this case, great composition and great contrasting strong colours. I love it. 10

LOVE the color. Interesting and not too busy. Love the single tree and the leading line of the fence. The more I review this, the more I like it. Bumping up to 9.

The over-sharpening artifacts (the white streaks in the branches) detract from this fine image. Have you tried less sharpening, with several passes?
