I am the Senior Pastor of The Melbourne Worship Centre, and in 2001, my friends Jeff and Ruth Njuguna commenced a school in Kenya (after the tragic loss of their daughter Lavenda at Birth). Our church is a major stakeholder and from its humble beginnings with 5 students in January 2001, we now have 2 schools and over 300 students and 60 staff in a remote area of Kenya known as Gatarakwa.

These people would not get an education without the help of many generous people. You can find out more by visiting our website: www.lavendasprings.com

Yes, the school was named after the daughter Ruth and Jeff lost. Her name is known over most of the region.

This shot of Jimmy and his friend (Jimmy is on the right). Now Jimmy has an amazing story. His mother was raped and bashed and left as disbled person by her husband. Jimmy and his sister were not able to be looked after by their mother and at 5 years old, Jimmy lived alone in the streets of Nairobi, surviving and fending for himself and his little sister. In 2005, we took them into our school and put them in our special care house called KIVULI which means shade. He and his sister are doing amazingly well and getting a great education. Jimmy is a fun and vivacious kid, considering what he has been through Jimmy is a miracle. Thank God for Jimmy...thank God for Lavenda Springs.

I've really enjoyed looking at your Kenya collection. The people are beautiful and you captured them wonderfully. The stories make the photos all the more special. I'm going to Uganda this summer and it is so inspiring to see these pictures and hear about the school that is helping so many!

As with all the photos in this collection, it is enjoyable to read the stories as well as viewing the photographs.

WOW, what a funny smile they have. Very good shot, with a wonderful stiry behind. The composition is quite good, with the alignement of eyes and the teeth. Tones of the right boy are good, but in the left one seem a bit soft. I would have prefered both on focus.
In conclusion, is a great image that tell things about the happyness of the children.

Álex.
