This is inspired by a collection of photographs by Man Ray and a quote attributed to him: "I would photograph an idea rather than an object and a dream rather than an idea."

Photographed in incandescent light and processed to grayscale and negative. Contrast increased and cropped.

If you had said in your title that you were doing a tribute to Man Ray, I would have given you a 9 or a 10. But since I didn't know who the tribute was for, I didn't vote. It's a shame. You were grossly underscored for this.

The last couple of comments before the end of the challenge got it right. It is a detail shot of a loom. We are in the process of dressing the loom so that is why the warp threads are hanging loose.

Here is the shot I started with completely unprocessed except for resizing it:

i would have liked to see a different angle, the white object in the upper portion is, in my opinion, a distraction from the rest of the image. i'd also like to see it a little sharper. having said that, it's a great idea and i think the photo is very interesting.

Part of the fun of the challenge is comparing the photos to the work of the photographers they're paying tribute to. I can't figure out who that would be in this case. This feels like a collage of multiple images arranged in an attempt at the abstract ... but it doesn't quite fall together for me (so I guess that's a critique of the composition).
