"Arska kotona kota", if the translation went well that means 'Arska in the kota'.

So many to choose from, but since I haven't done much portraiture yet and like the light and scene of this photo I chose to enter this one. The only thing I don't like is the bit of person on the right.

Shot in a Lappi Kota, on the grounds of the Poropuisto reindeer park. After a reindeer sleigh ride we had some sausages and blackpot coffee in there. Outside it was minus 15 to 16 degrees celcius, but inside it was nice and warm.
Perhaps a bit to tight to shoot with the 50. Looking back I wish I had taken the 30 f/1.4 with me instead.

The man standing there is one of the guides. His name is Arska. His clothes are made from reindeer leather. Therefore they blend well with the wooden background.

Because of the wood and red color of the fire there was a huge redcast in the original image. After six attempts I finally found a way to get rid of that. I set the WB manually by tweaking a grey point slider for reds in Nikon Capture. Add to that color balance editing in Capture and Photoshop. The way it is now becomes very close to the reality I remember.

Edits:
Nikon Capture
- Changed Color Mode to Adobe RGB
- Whitebalance, set grey point, sample grey point, marquee sample, red to 0,66.
- Photo Effects (= color balance) to +8, 0 -8
- small pull on the curves

Photoshop 6
- Contrast USM
- Curves pulled slightly upwards
- color balance, again +8, 0, -8
- FM Chroma Noise reduction
- Kodak Digital GEM noise reduction
- History brushed the situation before DGEM back on Arska, because the noise reduction also took out to much fine detail and fine contrast.
- a little bit of D&B
- final color balance tweak +7, -2, 0
- Resize
- USM 130% 0.3px
- contrast +9
- save for the web

I gave this a 6. Liked the 'genuine' feel to it. The main criticism I had was the upper right half-a-person. The grain 'worked' and added some character and feel in this, but perhaps without it might have been better, not sure.
