I took this picture shortly after my son was born. I set the camera on the tallest dresser in my room. I set the timer and attempted to place us perfectly in front of the camera. It only took about 5 shots to get the 'feeling' I was trying to capture.

I adjusted levels, brightness/contrast and removed color for black and whit effect.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Technical:This is a nice capture but the focus seems to be little soft. Also the image is a bit "flat" but is well exposed.

Aesthetic:Good emotional feel and b/w is good choice but somehow lacks on overall "photographic" value. This is a great photo for family album though.

Challenge:Offcourse, anything would fit into theme for this challenge :)

Conclusion:Definately a good capture. Maybe a little bit of postprocessing might have improved the overall composition.A little bit more of contrast and sharper focus would have helped.

I'm by no means expert in area of photography. My comments are purely based on my limited understanding of technology and art behind digital photography. Apart from doing detailed evaluation of your submission, my intent is to learn different styles of photography by critically evaluating selective submissions. If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via email or PM.

Wish you a great day!

While I'm sure you love this photo on a personal level, the lighting, focus, and composition are just not strong enough to really sell this photo beyond the family/friend level. One of the hardest things I think we all have to deal with is trying to find a way to make our personal favorite photographs appeal to the masses in a competition of this nature.

The image is lovely, but technically, it's very average-like. 6.

Cute and personal photo! I this would really look great brighter, and with maybe a soft glow or something? :)

Lovely. An emotional rather than technical shot which is nice to see around here. Nice b/w shot, 7/10
