Awesome shot! Wish I had the gumption to get up early like this. Technically and artistically superb.

I really do think this shot is perfect the way it is. It's beautifully composed, it's sharp, the colors are amazing, there no distracting elements at all. Against this serene backdrop are only two man-made objects - any other objects in there like a building or a fence would've ruined it for me. I agree with Justin that the "no lifeguard on duty" sign adds to the photo. I'm not sure about his suggestion about adding someone in the tower...or anyone in the shot for that matter. True, it would be an entirely different picture, but I'm not sure how I'd feel about it. Actually, now that you mention it, I really would like to see that alternate version just see what I'd think about it. :) Anyway, this is going into my favorites!

Nice shot. I love the "No lifeguard on duty" sign, it really adds to the photo and enhances the mood and atmosphere. Also, I like that the tower isn't completely sillhouetted against the sunset - there's a healthy amount of detail present. Great job.

Edit: How about burning in the sky and corners of the sand via a gradient overlay to contain the image more?

Edit 2: I think this could be a very interesting portraiture study if you had someone sit up in the tower. That would have a whole different feel to it though and would evoke totally different emotions.
