This was taken just after a rainy evening right in front of our hotel in Rio. I know it's not very exciting (especially for a "best of" competition), but I think it's one of my favorite images of the year anyway. I love the patterned pavements in Rio.
Cropped slightly.
Curves on the blue channel.
Cloned out a couple of small objects that were on the sidewalk.
Used 50% gray layer to burn & dodge.
Neat image, including sharpening.

Very interesting photo. I love the colors and patterns. It seems the lights are just a little to glaring at the top of the windows. Other than that it's perfect. Great job, bumping up!
I think the horizon is a bit close to the center of the photo, and I find the glare from the lights a bit distracting. The colours of the sky and sea is really nice though.
The background looks at first like a painted backdrop, but that's an illusion I like very much. The unusual paving and the theatrical-looking building add further to the unworldly feel that the image has. And the strongly lighted marker post on the beach is, for me, the hinge around which the whole thing revolves. The stacked furniture does eventually explain the scene, but even that leaves a few questions pleasingly unanswered. The overall effect is sharp and a bit unsettling, and I also like that very much. 8.
