The NH-VT Shrine Bowl is played here in Hanover every year at the Dartmouth stadium, so each summer we're treated to a Shriners parade. It's quite a sight...hundreds of men (most fairly old) wearing maroon fezes (is that the correct plural?) and driving miniature cars or other bizzare things. Makes for great shooting and I've done it a couple times now. In 2005 I got a couple close ups that I really liked...great facial expressions. There were two that stood out in perticular. This is by far my favorite (I love the expression combined with the words on his hat and also like all the texture in his skin), the only reason I considered the other was because his rear view mirror is kindof distracting here, and wasn't sure if people would like the way the work 'chief' on his hat is cut off. Hope I made the right choice. Anyway, postprocessing was pretty simple. I went to black and white using the channel mixer, doing his glasses separately from the rest of the image so as to get the correct balance to minimize reflections and not make the lenses too transparent (on the other image I liked I actually used the channel mixer to make his sunglasses look like normal glasses so his eyes were in the picture which was kinda fun, but this guy didn't have enough coming through in the red channel for that). Other than that, messed with the levels just a tad and did a wee bit of burning to make the mirror less bright, so it's at least a little bit less distracting. Healing brush to get rid of some wierd little flecks reflected in his glasses and a touch more burning to reduce the appearance of some flares in the glasses. USM, resize, USM again and that's about it. |

Great character on this man's face, I just wish there wasn't the big blurry thing in the foreground. 5 |

Would be a great picture... if not for the blurry mirror?? I would say a 9 without it... so I will give it a 7 |

The title and perhaps the person mean alot to you, seeing the reflective metalic item touching the chin hurt the overall look though, bumping up a notch.. |

Nice portrait, but I would have liked to see the whole of the text in the shot uncropped. I also find the out of focus mirror(?) to be a bit distracting in front of his face. |

Strong portrait, not sure about the end of the golf club, as it distracts me. |

Ahh.. shriners. I don't like the mirror there, it detracts from the portraiture and really hurts this photo. |

would be a real nice b/w portrait if it were not for the distraction of the mirror in front of this man's face. |
