where is the pork??? and the date stamp is terribly distracting
01/17/2006 05:00:06 PM
aww this is gonna be DQ'd cuz of date stamp :( - even though - the focus could be a little better - I had to look for the pork chop - due to your title - then I saw it in the background - maybe that should have been in more focus with onion to the side or something - dunno ?
01/16/2006 06:58:12 PM
Hmmmmm... pretty sure 05/01/2006 is still in the future. Would not be surprised if you got a DQ request because the image was taken outside the challenge week. LOL! Like the hamburger in the pan soft focused in the background. Overall image quality is on the weak side. It otherwise is a good image.
01/16/2006 04:54:21 PM
the date is very unappealing
01/15/2006 04:38:40 PM
seems to me you need to check your time stamp on your camera. As is it looks like you took this pic 3 days before the challenge. This could call for a DQ. Also the focus seems a tad bit soft.
01/15/2006 11:08:51 AM
Watch that date stamp - no text allowed - see rules...

Must be new math - that "pork chop" looks an awful lot like an onion! :))

Seriously - the overall focus is pretty bad. Is that a contact lens to the right of the pork chop, er, onion?
01/14/2006 07:48:46 PM
nice idea but lacks sharpness
01/14/2006 03:22:09 PM
Sorry but the focus ust too soft and the date is a bit of a distraction
01/14/2006 12:42:34 PM
please, turn off the date!!
01/14/2006 12:39:03 PM
Fix your camera... that date thing just irritates......
01/14/2006 09:40:01 AM
Interesting, I would like to see the pork chop more clearly and have a little more of the shot in focus.
01/13/2006 07:16:23 PM
date - not good. DOF - not good. Pork Chop? Where?
01/13/2006 03:29:45 PM
No 1) Focus No 2) no dates on the pictures...
01/13/2006 10:14:14 AM
this is a great set up, I would like to see a little broader DOF, but this is really nice work
01/13/2006 12:20:06 AM
I like that you caught the blue of the flame in the shot. The focus seems to be more on the onion than the pork chop that the title indicates the shot is about. Perhaps a slightly higher angle for the shot so that you could see more into the pan would have helped.
01/12/2006 01:50:09 PM
thanks for the date info:-)just kidding, it look a little bit out of focus
01/12/2006 12:56:39 PM
I apologize in advance for all the Americans telling you you're disqualified because you took this photo in May. Nice composition. Nothing seems to be in focus, but I don't think a photo needs to be in focus, nor does it need a single focal point.

Challenge
- Relevant to the Challenge? Yes
- Is subject unique (vs. unoriginal or rehashed)? Yes

Compostion
- Good or Bad? How can it be fixed? Rule of thirds. Bring the chop/skillet/flame down in the image. If you hade to compose/crop something out above that try a large piece of black spray painted cardboard well behind the skillet.
- Is there anything missing? Show me more of the knife. It seems lost.
- Good use of Depth of Field? Yes. Nice out-of-focus background including the pork chop in the skillet.

Lighting
- Good use of light? Yes.
- Good use of shadows? Yes
- Are there any overly dark shadows? I actually think it works for this photo. The skillet is dark, but you'd have lost the flames is you'd put more light there.

Aesthetics/Artistic Appeal:
- What is my reaction or feelings? LOSE THE DATE STAMP. You've probably gotten many comments on this already, but ultimately it's what destroys the quality of the image.
01/11/2006 11:28:04 PM
OK, never submit a photograph with a timestamp. Also, it seems like a pretty mundane shot to me, and the focus doesn't seem quite right. Nice try, but better luck next time.
01/11/2006 10:56:12 PM
I can't believe you actually submitted this! Did you not notice the date? 1
01/11/2006 06:05:41 PM
I like the idea behind this one, of the pork chop cooking over the open flame.. but I think it gets a bit lost way back there. I would also turn the date imprint off before taking shots for the challenge.
01/11/2006 05:31:59 PM
Date, grainy, blurry.
01/11/2006 05:29:13 PM
You should think about the "date" should not be on the picture.
01/11/2006 04:29:04 PM
not sure what your were going for here
01/11/2006 02:23:01 PM
Well, you could have at least removed the date from the picture. Sorry, this is my candidate for the brown ribbon.
01/11/2006 11:44:14 AM
Needs to be in focus. We don't need the date.
01/11/2006 11:06:03 AM
Interesting! I like the shallow depth of field and the onion being forefront. I wish that the date weren't there, and that the onion were on a surface other than white, so that it stood out more. Good luck!
01/11/2006 10:43:00 AM
What's that date doing in the image? Also, since the pork chop is the subject, it should be featured in the picture rather than in the background and out of focus.
01/11/2006 09:26:18 AM
The date just threw me off. If you could have, you should have taken out the date. I would have given it a 6. Also, maybe focusing more on the pork chop rather than the onion would have been better, at least that's my opinion on it. So composition wise, it's not working too well, but it's not horrible either. It's just good. I'll applaud you on the lighting though it looks good like that. For that I give you a 5.
01/11/2006 08:49:29 AM
Out of focus, get rid of the time stamp!!!!
01/11/2006 06:16:36 AM
Otherwise nice, but its lacking sharpness and could use tad more thinking on camera angle, its a good start but not enough.
01/11/2006 03:32:43 AM
Not a very good photo. Focus is off and lighting is bad. I won't even get into the date stamp thing.
01/11/2006 12:47:26 AM
just can find a sharp focu point, can you turn the date mark off?
