This is a picture of the Split Rock Lighthouse, located along the north shore about an hour north of Duluth, MN. The picture was taken on November 10, 2005-the 30th Anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. It is a rare occasion to see this lighthouse lit, as the only time it is lit is for two hours on the anniversary of the sinking of the ship. Each year a special ceremony is held to honor the 29 people who sank with the ship. The bell is rung, the names of the victims are read and the lighthouse is lit. I made a day trip to the lighthouse on November 10th specifically for the ceremony and to take some pictures of the lighthouse while it was lit. The deep blue tones that are present in the pictures is the actual colors-no filter was used. It was a site to see
