 Taken during a photo trip with two DPC members,
andrim and Bolti. . The objective was to take a photo for "bridges II" and I and Bolti did pretty well there. I chose this shot as I think there is something about it. Some of you might recognize the location from the "Abandoned buildings"
challenge where I ended up in the 6th place. I intentionally drove out to this spot again that time to take that shot, I liked the spot that much.

Anyway, taken at 30mm. The reason for the strange settings (iso 200 and 1/320) is that it was very windy, normally I would have put up a tripod, used a smaller aperture, iso 100 and a longer shutterspeed but I pretty much just ran out of the car and took this shot and increased the iso to crunch out a faster shutterspeed to make sure there was no camera shake.

LOTS of PP on this one. Increased the WB to kelvin 14000 to redden the shot. Did a separate curves on the sky and again on the foreground, healing brush, clone stamp tool to make it pretty seamless. A little dodge burn but minimal and finally sharpened after resizing.

Returning for comment. This is gorgeous; I love the colors and the scene in general. One minor nit, it seems a bit soft: I'd like to see sharper detail in the buildings. I bet this is somewhere in the top 10! (Rated 9)

Original, interesting scene. Good colors, but I find the snow to be a bit on the grey side, but that's perhaps just my taste. 7

I wonder if these are the same ones: //www.pbase.com/franziskalang/image/17465324 I think they are . What a difference the season and angle makes. I really really like yours. The sky in the background is fantastic, as is the exposure of the houses and mountains. Congrats on a wonderful entry!

Love how the rich and vibrantly warm color of the orange red sky contrast so sharply with the stark white and cold ground plane covered with snow. What makes the photo so appealing isn't just the contrast between cold and warm in colors but there is the feeling of cold isolation seen in the abandoned and falling apart buildings. That feeling/mood of abandoned dwellings of a 'cold still life' if you will plays into and complements the cold environment of the icy snow.

Nice contrast created by a bright, majestic background juxtapositioned with a bleak, desolate foreground. It works very well.
