I don't know if anyone else will like this pic as much as I do. I have always been fascinated by everything Native American so was quite pleased with how this shot came out. This was taken at the Dade Historic Battlefield re-enactment of Dade's Battle which occured on December 28, 1835. A small group of Seminole Indians ambushed and massacred a contigent of 100 US Army soldiers and officers. Only one man, Ransom Clark, survived the attack. The US had been moving into Florida and killing or relocating the Seminoles for over 20years prior to this attack.

Per comments from voters - it was a rushed shot. I had been focused on the other side of the field on some soldiers when I happened to see these two out of the corner of my eye riding right towards me. I had to hurry up and swing around and fire off a quick shot or two to catch them. I would have liked to have had the entire rifle in the picture as well. Thanks everyone for all the great comments.

This photo constantly draws me in. I gave it a 10 during the voting...and I stand by it.

This actually looks like a still from a movie. Excellent job keeping the background in without allowing it to be overwhelming. I think its great, particularly as a spur of the moment shot - looks like you were in the perfect place. The placement of all the elements in relation to each other is perfect - the grass, the horses, the men, the trees... Everything else is so perfect, who cares about the gun - I only notice because you mentioned it in your notes.

I love this shot.. it's very very impactful..
and I'm facinated by the details..

Errmm.. The focus seemed to be on the horse.. can't help it as it's a rush shot.. but ... if the focus is on the man, it'll be much better.
The rifle seemed a little "chopped" off.. A little more headroom would be good here..

Lovely.. would have been a 10 for me.. :)

Amazing shot, Katherine! I gave this an 8 and was very impressed by it. Even better, now that I know how it was captured. Keep up the good work!

nice subject but the border is on the heavy side, it takes attention away from your image

I think the border slightly overshadows the photo, but the photo is very good when you realise you're meant to look at it! The mistiness adds a good sense of mystery and them both looking to the left adds to that too.

Awesome image. Could have used a dash more contrast IMO. Good Luck...this image is probably scoring some super high marks.

Very nice. But imho the border is way too bold and out of character with the scene (Indians roaming on horseback and you boxed them in).

I feel that the top of the gun being cut off leaves the rest of the image a little short. To me, it seems as though the composition was a little hastil arranged.

The men seem a little hazy, which shifts the focus to the horses. Could be ok, but judging by the title that's not what you're going for. Also, the border is distracting.

Interesting subject and nice composition. Has the potential of being a really wonderful image. I would have preferred to see more headroom so that the rifle is also not cut off. Overall, the colour needs to pop out with a bit more contrast and the resolution could be better. Still - 8.

This is a beautiful, interesting and very colorful scene, I would have preferred to see the tip of the rifle, I love the photo anyway.

Cool shot, but wish the haze wasn't so evident on the models themselves. Is this from a movie set or something? That really looks like an actor I recognize on the left.

Very cool photograph. The subject matter really pops from the background. I'm very curious to see the technical description of how you accomplished the faded background. Well done!

Excellent action photo capturing a present moment, celebrating a rich heritage. The smoke in the background causes these warriors to stand out even more, highlighting the past/present story in the photo. Bumping up.

You nailed it with a perfectly original and very beautiful capture... The border is perhaps a little to invasive but really not at all a problem for scoring here... well done.

Great shot. Wish the rest of the gun had been included in the frame. Seems a little too close on the top.
