Uh-oh...I need to check my stuff again. I have an exam on English history in two days and just can't remember what to do with this date. Shame on me.
Good picture. Lovely lighting and costumes. 9.

My goodness, that really was a civil war - if all they were doing was playing backgammon. ;-) Great photo.

Excellent composition and lighting! It's hard to believe that this is a photograph and not a fine oil painting.

Lovely scene, worthy of a classic painting.
It is rather dark and red/magenta tone biased. I wonder what you think of this quick edit, altough overdone a bit:

I changed the color balance and took out some red and magenta in favour of cyan, green and yellow. I also brightened a bit with a small pull on the curves and added some contrast.

This is such a well done picture, and so gritty and real of the times ... bumping up.

Mood, lighting, still life feel, exquisite detail, composition - all make this seem like a Rembrandt. Excellent capture and processing.
P.S. Have you thought about a grunge effect? It would bring this into the 21st century, you old fogey.
P.P.S. Have you thought of a nice Cromwell portrait a la Librodo? He is such an attractive man.

since this is not a picture of a painting as I thought, but a setup I will bump my score, but I think voters would like to see this validated, I think it would raise the average score for this image.

as an colege art graduate I can relate to this setup, to bad it isn't your work, that would have shown a real determination on hunting down the ribbons :)

as a photo the lighting is perfect, it looks like you used a flash, but it might be the lighting on location, but this has a real rembrant look, hope you score high in the challenge.

bumping from 1 to 9 ;)

1642?? shouldn't this have been taken in 2005? Your use of available light is excellent, almost a Dutch painting, which I am sure was in your head when you took it. Very beautiful use of colour and lighting.

Wonderful image. Has a very oil painting look. I keep staring at this one.

The only thing that I would change (and this is just me - others probably won't agree) - I think I would prefer it if the man on the right was in a different position. I keep focusing on his stretch across the table.
Otherwise, I love it.

A very colorful capture of a period/era gone by with individuals dressed in period clothing. All the elements in this photo are either vibrant because of color and interesting because of all the representations of a era that no longer exists. But what the photo lacks is a main focus - there are so many objects around these two gentlemen that it takes away from what they may be doing. I like how the man on the left appears to be concentrating which attracts our eye to what he is staring at. The man on the right is reaching over the table to make his next move. It appears that these two men are playing a game of Backgammon. This is, in my opinion, what should be the main focus - the action in the scene is what needs to be the center of attention in this composition. As the picture stands now the forground is dominated with the table and the silver plates/utensils that draw attention away from what else is resting on the table. One barely notices the backgammon board if it was not for the actions of the two gentlemen focused on playing. I think a closer zoom where the frame is filled by just this two gentlemen with the board centered between them would greatly improve this composition.
