I have been blown away by all the really great entries re close-ups, especially the animal shots, like this one. The light and shades are so good, as well as the textures of this majestic lion.....This is so powerful.

A truly majestic photo :-) Very cool, I really like your processing of this image. Highly interesting, and I really like the full frame tight shot. Stands out among many very good wildlife shots. Well done!

To comment on every shot I also have to comment on my own. Hence this comment. That's number 701 in the challenge! :)

Not sure if the choice of sepia "colours" is the right one here. Perhaps it made it too bland. All this imo, obviously. Good luck!

Didn't think I'd like it when looking at the thumbnail. ...Now, straight to favs. Nice shot! 9

The tone of this look really nice. I really wish there was some indication that the Lion had eyes. JMO

Love the detail and in beautiful interplay of light and shadows. Great haughty kinglike expression.

One could argue that several of the other "big cat" photos are more dramatic, but none offer the texture of yours. None offer the regal emotion of yours. None play with light so well as yours. Superb. Among my top picks.

I think this is way too tight of a crop, IMO.

the tones here are great and I like the composition. I think the image's impact is lessened by the distracting shadows on his nose.

A catchlight in the eyes would have made this already stron image significantly stronger.

Gothic glow? An interesting take on a lion portrait.

Tons of lion photos in this challenge for some reason, but this one's the best. This is a true portrait. I see both the nobility of the NY Public Library lions and the puffed-upness of the Cowardly Lion. He would make a good king. 9.

I really like the full frame and perspective, I think I would have scored this higher if the highlights around the mouth were toned down a bit and there were catchlights in the eyes, the dappled light is very nice too

Nice composition, detail, and use of sepia here. I only wish I could see more detail in the eyes, but as it is it's a great shot.

Great use of shawow and light. I only wish the lion's eyes were more in focus.
