 This is the "natural" version" to see how much could be recovered. Here's roughly what was done, starting with the full size original:
- crop
- Fix motion blur using FocusMagic, 310 degrees, 15px, selectively on body of bird only
- Duplicate base layer, blend mode to screen, opacity to about 75% to brighten image
- Curves (selective) to darken background
- Hue/sat, shifted color of BG more toward greens to set off reds in bird
- Slight blur on BG to smooth noise
- USM, then NeatImage on body of bird to bring out detail and then reduce chroma noise a little
- Resize and save for web
