 I actually got this pendant from my mother so to me this has a double meaning...
as for the technical details... I forgot to check the iso speed setting on my camera and only found afterwards I had set it on 800 the week before when I was mucking around... oops!
apart from that just played with contrast and brightness and changed the background (just tried a few things until I was happy with it... can't actually remember the sequence of what I did...)

I like the shadow, but for me personally, I don't find the subject matter holds my interest as well as other entries.

This appears to be a snapshot of a key chain. While the subject on the keychain is iconic of motherhood to some populations, there are countless others that would disagree with your title. In the end it doesn't matter because the keychain is really the subject of this shot and a very boring subject at that. I don't care for this extremely narrow vertical crop.
