I just got my first DSLR -> the Canon Rebel XT for Xmas (YIPEE!!) so I had to get in a few quick shots so I could submit to this challenge. I realize this is not ribbon quality, but everyone has to start somewhere, right?

Post-Processing: Crop, Unsharp-mask, Resize

ANY comments/suggestions are welcome as I am new to the DSLR world and hope to continually experiment and improve my skills. Thank you.

Thank you for the advice. I've re-read the tutorial and should be able to submit larger size images in the future.

Nice shot, too bad the picture is so small. Would probably do better if it was bigger. Refer to tutorials for downloading instructions.

Very nice pattern and interesting lighting. As I'm sure most others are saying, I too wish this shot was larger, up near the 640 pixel limit.

No doubt there is a pattern there. Something is missing though...

Simplicity is great sometimes. Seeing a basket, aiming straight at it, using flash as light source and pressing the button is a good start. But then, one should think like "ok I have the shot, how can I improve it?" Try getting rid of direct light, change the field (and maybe depth) of view, postprocess your shot to emphasize the speciality of the selected pattern, do anything to grab the attention of the viewer. Oh, and the common word: it's small. You have the size limit of an old monitor and the filesize limit not much less than the total memory of an old video card, so use it.

it's a shame that the pic is so smal, nice composition and lighting though...good luck

Nice weave. Would have liked to have seen it larger, to really check out the detail and sharpness.
