Perhaps a small levels adjustment for this. I lowered the grey point (if that's what it's called - the one in the middle), lowered the white point slightly and raised the black point a touch. Composition is fine and the background is blurred enough to remove distractions, yet not so blurred as to lose any sense of context.

Interesting bird. Maybe make it a little more sharp yet. Seems a little too dark in my mind also.
