Well, thanks for looking at this picture and your comment. Actually these are not birch trees -- they are pine trees -- and the trunks are actually anything but white. The trunks are (as best as I can see them) mostly gray with a hint of blue and brown, so I don't think the color is off that much. The place in the woods where I took this was pretty densely shaded but the sky was a clear blue at the time. The exposure was 2 seconds at f/11. You can get a better look at the trees in this larger version:

In the larger version ,you can also see that one of the ferns in the foreground was jostled by the wind just a bit during the long exposure.

I enjoy these woodland shots. This one is very well composed and fun to look at. One thing...those are birch trees, correct (if not - nevermind. )? I'm thinking if you tone down the blue channel a little the trees would whiten up some. Just a thought.
