 I did this with a pretty simple setup. Just a black sheet of strong paper as background. Got out my chessboard and fired a few shots. This is the result. Hope you like it... Yours, Jan

I scored this well because it is a great use of shallow depth of field. However, I find myself wishing that the front piece was the sharp one and the rest faded into the blur.

The best of the several inevitable chess images, especially as you knew to quote Philidor. 7.

outstanding composition, lighting, and desaturation! Only one criticism: the focus looks like it was about an inch short, judging from the in-focus area on the board. The object pawn should have been a little crisper. Wonderful image! 8
