well lit shot, well executed. Not sure that DOF really plays a role though. |

Everything looks sharp to me, so points lost for that. However, it's a beautiful picture and great lighting so I won't score low. Some will debate even though dof may be only a couple of inches, to me part of the photo should make it look like a wide aperture was used to make the sharp parts stand out. Here, just the black does that. (and the frame). |

DOF is not very apparent in this picture. The high contrast between the background and the flower makes it look almost artificial. I think if a shadow would've been cast on the background as well or there was something to show that the background wasn't just a void of blackness, it would've helped it a bit. |

I don't think this is a great example of shallow depth of field, but it is an exquisite photograph nonetheless. The lighting and composition are perfect. |

9-quite possibly my favorite in this challenge. Might i suggest some of that beautiful lighting added to the center? |

This is so beautiful. Perfect lighting and shadows. So Georgia O'Keeffe like. |

This is beautifully lit and rendered, but it conveys to me absolutely NO sense of "shallow DOF". |

It takes alot to impress me with a flower photo. . .this one most definitely does! There is a wow factor extraordinaire! The lighting is out of this world! Good luck. |

A nice picture but all seems in focus. |

The whole rose seems in focus to me - this is a wonderful picture, but I see it as more a great use of light/dark rather than focus/out of focus. |

Wonderful lighting, great title, good border. I would have liked a little more visible DOF. |

A nice shot, no doubt, but it doesn't demonstrate the challenge topic too well (everything appears to be in sharp focus). |

I do not see the DOF in this picture since there is no background - 5 |

hard to tell if the DOF is shallow if there is only one visible object. |

this is beautiful, just does not show shallow DOF to me. |

This is beautiful -- composition, light, setup, everything. However, I'm not sure the depth of field is shallow; the entire rose looks to be in focus, and the background is black. GORGEOUS image, but since it's a technical challenge I feel like I shouldn't give this the 9 or 10 it would otherwise deserve. 7. |
