Challenge: Shallow DOF II (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
Location: Boston, MA
Date: Dec 17, 2005
Aperture: 1.8
ISO: 200
Shutter: 200
Galleries: Still Life
Date Uploaded: Dec 17, 2005

Natural light from a window only, no cropping. Focus is on the top left dot on the 3.

Converted from RAW using RSP (WB correction and a little curves & sharpening). Had to use PS save for web to drop file size 2 bytes since RSP created a 152K file - I guess PS has a slightly different compression engine. Next time probably make the file 639 bytes wide instead :-(

Lighting is great, but I agree both dice should be in focus, or at least readable... I'd also shoot from an angle (so the points aren't parallel to the image edges), I think that might energize it a bit.

This is a splendid image. The colors are fantastic. The ultrasharp focus on the one die is terrific. A really excellent demonstration of DOF to highlight a subject. And a wonderful photo because of the movement implied by the out of focus part of the photo. My top rated photo for this challenge. Hope it ribbons.

Nice idea, tighter would probably be better.

This is good overall, but, for it to work really well, both dice need to be in focus. 8

Crop the teal from the top edge and it would be a beautiful piece.
