Great concept - I do see shallow depth of field in play here - but I find that I wish that there were more spools blurred where only one spool was sharp.
This could work for the pattern challenge also. Nice colors, good textures and pleasing cropping. In this instance, I like the bold black frame for the way it emphasizes the bright colors and shiny texture of the threads.
