Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: 4:00-5:00 a.m. (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
Location: S.F. Lumbard St. facing east
Date: Dec 7, 2005
Aperture: 8
ISO: 200
Shutter: 30 seconds
Galleries: Cityscape, Travel
Date Uploaded: Dec 9, 2005

I took this from atop Lumbard Street. I was afraid I wasn't going to make it in time, because there was a big, slow detour on my way to the city. But, I made it just in time. I had several other photos that I liked better, during the sunrise, but unfortunately, they were outside the 4-5am range.

So, as far as pping, I converted from RAW, did a little levels change and USM.

I hope it does well as my comeback after a long time away due to motorcycle accident, (usually I would try to use that to my advantage to get sympathy points, too bad no one is going to see this until after voting).

Great shot..!!

Critique Club checking in here.

Several things jump out at me with this pic - no focal point and the two lights on the left - the flare thing and the lower left street light - jump out and draw me eye something fierce. The WB is off - all the lights are too yellow. The top 1/3 of the pic is just nothingness. General rule on composition is that unless it adds to the pic, remove it.

I see several things that might have been made a focal point - two bridges, the leading line of the street might have been good being empty at 5 am. There is something interesting left middle above the roof of the foreground house that looks like it might be a train station or something - Bottom line - what am i supposed to be looking at? What is the message, the story, this image is to convey to me?

I see the voters gave yo ua 5.9! Man, i gotta do more night (OK, SOME!) night shots as the voters are suckers for them. I found out in the landscape challenge (see my entry and alanfreed 's entry to see what i mean).

great shot of SF. Would be better if starburst on the upper left side of photo was cropped out.

Is this right near chinatown?

A nice shot, but overall not very memorable. I do like that you can see the bridges in the background, and the view all the way down the one street. Seems to be lacking a focal point for me. Still well done though!

i find this crop to be awkward. A tree should always have a base touching the ground. The hills of sanfran make that difficult, so the city does not lead itself to this kind of shot. I would have retook the photo until i got one without the unexplained light flare to the left.
