"Hold Fast"

Cold and barren, grasping
at the last remains of fall.
A lonely bush clasps tight
for an unforgiving wind calls,
the little blossoms will answer
with an uncertain hush.
The true essentials of life
are evident in this bush.
Hold fast to the ones you love
and never willingly let go,
for when everything is gone
you will stand or fall alone.
So as the storms of life
pound you and apprehensions blow,
whether it be wrong or right
never let your little blossoms go.

Barren

On a barren landscape I started.
As a seedling nature took me in hand
and I grew and grew.

In full flower my vibrant color was a
still life masterpiece. I caught the eye
of man.

The climax of my beauty is a distant,
faded thing. Time has stripped me
bare.

Some might think me ugly and say
I look dead and barren or even carved
of stone.

When my time here is over and I can
feel the sun no more.
I will have a certain tranquillity when
placed in my mother’s arms once again.

This is pretty. It begs to be used in a greeting card with some deep and meaningful poem about life, the universe and everything.
