Challenge: Too Early (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location: River Exe, Exeter, UK
Date: Dec 4, 2005
Aperture: F13
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/640
Galleries: Candid, Water
Date Uploaded: Dec 4, 2005

Taken on the flood plains of the River Exe just outside Exeter in the UK. Days and days of heavy rain flooded acres of farmland and the rising sun produced a thick morning mist.

A friend and I were out on one of our regular "early risers" when I decided to take a few candids while he had his back turned.

It's not been processed in any way, other than a little sharpening. The unusual "sepia" look is just a natural result of the weather conditions and camera settings. The sun is just in the top of the frame, but it's heavily diffused by the mist.

It's a shame that an electricity pylon is just visible in the top right but there was no time to move for a re-frame. Cropping it out changes the balance of the photo in a way I'm not happy with, so for DPC it must stay. The version on my hard-disk has the offending power structure removed =P

I love that a photo with so little processing has won a ribbon. :)

Am I the only one that can see the rings around the sun? I've recently purchased a new Sony LCD monitor and I'm seeing alot of things I haven't in the past. I get those rings when I over do it trying to eliminating noise with neatimage. it is an outstanding image outside of that, zorba

Nice shot!

A very good shot, I love it. It makes me feel cold and calm. The tower in the right hand side is kind of wonky and doesnt fit the shot, However, the photo Fits the challenge. i give it a 9, i'd give it a 10 but there is always room for improvement.

The background is amazing. The silhouetts are nice, but the foreground could be softer. The photo goes from very hard to very soft.

I just love the mood created with the B&W Itcertainly looks very early

I originally gave this a 6, but compared to the others I gave six, this certainly deserves more than that. I'm attracted to morning mist as well. The silhouette is working so unbelievably well in this shot. The minor ripple in the water, fantastic. Thank goodness it wasn't placid water, I don't think it would be as good. The desolated wintered trees in the background adds a very extra "wow" factor in this shot. So I'm changing this to a 9. It's seriously a good shot. I hope you get a ribbon, I really do, especially because it fits the challenge oh so perfectly.
