Challenge: Free Study IX (Advanced Editing IV)
Collection: Challenge Entries
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Sigma 50mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro for Canon
Location: London, UK
Date: Nov 11, 2005
Aperture: F4.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/60th sec
Galleries: Abstract, Macro
Date Uploaded: Nov 30, 2005

Originally shot for my PaD (one of a month's worth of macro shots), this one seemed to be the obvious choice for this challenge - however, whether it has mass appeal is a totally different matter... Needless to say I love it, especially the very shallow DoF, and the tones took me forever to get just how I wanted them. Oh, and just so you know, this is the corner of a small pile of Post-It notes!

The editing steps were: crop, sharpen, auto contrast (twice), virtual photographer 'character' filter, nik Efex lighten/darken centre/edges (circular/100%/25%/50%) filter (twice).

Unique shot. That's some extreme shallow DOF, really makes the shot.

Interesting idea. I think having the corner off-center and maybe a little more at an agle would have added interest.

Not too fond of how the focus seems to be right in the middle of the shot. Such a narrow band in focus... did you blur the rest? I like the color and overall effect, but think a less centered shot with more in focus might appeal to me more.

IMHO needs a tad more DOF. Good tonal range and interesting subject matter.

Overall Calculated Average Score: 5, Interesting study in DOF, but it just don't get my juices flowing. Might do better in a specific challenge though.

Oooh, way way macro with very shallow DOF. I do like that aspect of it, plus the toning and the abstract feel of the image. Composition doesn't particularly grab me and there's no real focal point for me.

What a great idea. I love this. And B&W made it perfect.
