All I did with this was auto levels, hue/sat, brightness/contrast, crop and save!

I'm honestly not sure how this will turn out, not sure if everyone will get the concept. but I hope it fits!

I am in New Zealand so please excuse if I get this wrong, I wouldn't want to do you an injustice.

First Impression - the most important one:
Puzzled. I didn't quite know what to make of this initially as through ignorance I didn't know if there's a subtlety here that I didn't get.

Composition:
Composition is all about assembling the elements in a way that leads the viewer into your image where they will find the focus of the tale you're telling with it. Given my down-under ignorance, I was looking for some help from the image in interpretting it. When voting and in review, I'm still a little unsure of what the odd man out is.

Subject:
There's five elements here and in some ways they conflict with each other for attention. You've met the challenge and the idea is a very clever one.

Technical (Colour and light):
Your sinlge light source gives the image some of it's drama and images need drama. It has also thrown some meddlesome shadows like the one of the glove name. Sometimes you can defend that by holding a iece of white paper as a reflector. The light from it is diffused and quite subtle, in fact doesn't look like a light source at all.

The colour is almost a desaturation down to cream and brown which I rather like. It gives it an almost aged look, makes everything looks like it's from the museum. A mysterious haunting look like that is really quite cool.

To get a Ribbon?:
Ribboned images usually have a wow factor. In this case, there are som opportunities for that. As one of the commenters mentioned, it's flattish lighting could be enhanced by increased contrast. Maybe a re-composition would highlight the message a little more. I have a feeling that the basketball could do with a highlight. You can do that with something like a torch.

Summary:
This is an interesting image. It has a lot of mystery and aging in it. I would love to see it sting the voters into action. Have a play with some of the options and suggestions and see what lessons can be learned

I think the composition of the photo is good. Technically it isn't bad. The white of the yankee hat is quite blown and that immediately distracts. I bet that cost you some.

I have found many of these mediocre scoring photos lack contrast. You were limited by your exposure, but the rest of the picture looks much better with an upping of +20 on your contrast. Doing such blows the hat even more and also the baseball, so to get such you would need to reshoot the picture with a lower exposure. (or have wished for advanced editing)

Finally, I bet the DNMC crowd bit you a bit. (you can see it in the 1-3 votes) While I get what you are going for, it seems slightly shoehorned into the challenge. I didn't vote odd and I'm quite liberal in my threshold for meeting a challenge, but there are others that are very strict. Whether you deserved it or not, I bet this lowered you by .1-.2. The basketball just isn't "odd" enough. Yes, it isn't baseball, but it is a sportsball, and in that respect they all go together.

I'm really bummed to see this image. It's a nice shot, but WHY did you have to post it in one of the outtake threads? I'm just getting around to voting/commenting the last couple of days and had I seen this in the challenge prior to the outtake thread I wouldn't have commented on it in the outtake thread. I would wager you'll take a bit of a hit from those that saw it posted...

Anyway, good luck in the challenge.

Not knowing too much about either sport, I would guess that it is the basketball that is odd in this picture? Or the five items?

Very real. DOF could be better.

good idea and could title, but I think it would have been better if you actually had all baseballs in this picture w/ the basketball instead of putting hats and glove in
