Wasp sitting on leaf in my yard. Looked like he wanted to get me but instead he just sat there and let me take his pic.

like the over-hang....

if only the whole head or at least jaws were visible

A very cool shot, not your average, static, bug macro. It has more interaction with me because the wasp looks like it's peeking over the leaf at me, with half it's face hidden. It sort of has the mysterious veiled quality that the popular portrait shots of women with veils have.

The dof is great, with wing oof as well as right brim of leaf, nice & sharp on the 'face'.

I like the composition too, though I think there are other choices that would also work nicely for positioning the subject & using the leaf-edge as a leading line, I think your choice works best for getting the wasp at a nice, big size.

Super shot!

not gonna comment on composition cause bear sd it all, but overall a fantastic image IMO. Great detail, love the colours, DOF is fantastic and love his shadow coming through the bottom of the leaf

Great composition. Don't move anything. This works well. Having the wing in better focus would have been a big plus, but I do understand the limitations of macro photography.

I basically like him. I'd have to see the whole frame to advise on cropping/framing here. Certainly, given what we can see of wasp & silhouette in the posted image, it is framed up more or less optimally. I'm not thrilled with the head being right smack in the middle horizontally, but at least it is in the top 1/3 nicely. You can't crop any off here to move the head off center without losing wing or foot or some of the silhouette. It is possible the more image on the left and below might work a little better if that's an option.

I'd consider working with hue/sat to enhance the red component a little and pop the wasp off the BG a bit. If you look closely, you'll see an overall greenish tint creeping into the wasp itself. You basically have semi-complementary colors (greenish and reddish) if you work on defining them a bit.

Overall it's very nice. You've come a long ways.

Please include image data in the information field, lens/aperture/shutter speed etc.
