 Quite a bit of editing done to this one, but I like it anyway.

Paths

The fence between the world and the sun
keeps nothing out, and can hold nothing in:
it is a boundary that makes no sense,
except that we will trust a well-built fence
to mark our limits for us. We begin
a journey freely, but when it is done

We look behind and see that guidance came
from unexpected sources, and we know
we did not travel lightly, like the wind,
but rather made our way from start to end
more like a tide-bound log, in ebb and flow
between two shores we cannot even name.
