I was shooting this praying mantis for more than an hour.. lo and behold, a jumping spider entered the scene. I got about 5 shots of these and then the mantis pounced on its unsuspecting prey. Now, that's camouflage!

I also got that on my camera. Hooha! Got lucky again.

Tho it seems the photo is upside down, it's not. This is an orchid flower and the orientation is facing down.

Did so little editing here.Used a bit of curves and cropping. Applied neat image to remove noise produced by 800iso.

Thanks for all the votes. I have to be luckier next time for that very elusive ribbon. LOL

Excellent. I'm tempted to download it and rotate it to see the effect of being right side up.

I like the way this picture was taken although I assume this was rotated to make it look more interesting. what catches me is the eye of the praying mantis as it looks menacingly at its prey (i think the mantis is praying for its meal). great shot!!!!

8 - Very good, and two for one meet of the Challenge. Criticism; very difficult given the composition and inclusion of the two 'characters', but maybe a slightly different cropping. Would like to say different angle, but I am sure this was an opportune capture as is. Definition is good on both but would like to have seen perhaps a touch more as well as more vivid (especially in the green) colors, again though, difficult with the resulting contrast issues I imagine, as well as retaining definition in both 'characters' at once, in a macro.

well done, love the interplay between two of natures best hunters, the spider does not stand much of a chance if the encounter went on to conflict, but love the photo - to me if you lose any points, maybe the fact that the photo APPEARS to be upside down (know it is not), should not, but that may be a terrible reason to deduct points ( have seen others that actually turned theirs 180 degrees), just a thought

great capture, the upside down look is a bit disorientating, but belivable, hawever i think it might have been more pleasing if it was inverted to a " right way up" image. Never the less it ought to be right at the top, great illustration of the challenge subject.

perfect! Technically flawless, and so complex, with BOTH insects hiding. How on earth did you luck out and come across this? or set it up? This is going to be a high scorer, I think
