 30 Seconds is about as long as a wide-field, tripod-mounted star image can go before the stars begin to trail. I kept this shot at 30 seconds to preserve the glittering beauty of the Milky Way centered around the constellation Cygnus. The shot was taken at a satellite location for Lowell Observatory on Anderson Mesa, southeast of Flagstaff, AZ.

Curves were applied to the image to enhance contrast and balance color. Neat Image was used to smooth out noise and sharpen the image overall. A second pass with Unsharp Mask was used to tighten up the edges of the forest, observatory, and stars a bit more.

I'm a backyard astronomer, and have never having much luck with photographing the sky. Must have had some dark skies. Nice!

imagine if you popped a flash on the foreground object or from the indside of it. Sky is cool but this image needs more than just the sky.

It looks like a tent in the foreground but I can't be sure. 6
