Wasn't sure what I was going to do for this week's challenges as they both required a lot of thinking. Went to my parents' cottage for the weekend and loved the beautiful colours of the autumn leaves. Saw a maple tree with very bright red leaves and came up with the idea of the maple leaf being a proud Canadian symbol. I took a lot of shots of leaves on the trees, but then wanted to just get one mostly symetrical, bright red leaf with a background that wasn't too distracting.

Hope most of you get this as I was really proud of the way this shot came out. And yes, PS did help a lot to bring out the vision I was going for :)

Never expected to do this well on my 3rd challenge. Thanks everyone for all the great comments and encouragement. Guess now I have to make sure this wasn't just a fluke and I can actually shoot decent photos. Onwards to the next challenge!

Great shot. Wonderful color in the leaf, like the gray in the back, really accentuates the leaf. Good texture.

Symbollic, but just doesn't demonstrate pride

Beautyfull. No, really beautyfull. Wooden texture fits so fine in here.
And I like the red color against wood in background. Good lights.
In only the leaf was more healthy, but what can you do...

The background wood and leaf have nice texture and color. The leaf could have been a bit sharper. I find the pine needles pointing in all different directions very distracting. Overall I like the idea and layout, And a happy July ! to you.

I really like this idea - and the color and macro are good - the pine needles are a little distracting in my opinion, just the leaf on the wood would be nice - and the water marks - those are nice :)

One of the best shots in this challenge. Next to mine ;) but I'm sure this one is doing MUCH better than mine..

Okay onto what I like about this shot. The selective desaturation really makes this shot for me. I think if you would have not doe so it would be a very "normal" or dare I say "plain" shot. The pine needles make for a very rustic feel to a great shot to ring the the fall season!

Wonderful job. I give you a 10.

Very pretty. I wish there were more space around the red leaf - the crop is a tad tight. I like the detail and focus.

Love the colour in this image. The whole composition works well with the pride theme.
